Burger King Scholars Program
Burger King
Scholars awards are $1,000 each and may be used for
educational expenses, such as tuition fees and books, during
the first year of college or post-secondary
vocational/technical school. For a student to qualify,
he/she must be a high school senior and a U.S. resident that
meets their criteria. To obtain information about

available online from Oct. 15, 2007 – Feb. 15, 2008. If

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program
The Gates
Millennium Scholars (GMS), funded by a grant from the Bill &
Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide
outstanding, low income African American, American
Indian/Alaska Natives, Asian Pacific Islander American, and
Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete
an undergraduate college education in any discipline they
choose.

2007 First Amendment Essay Contest
The New York
Press Association (NYPA) Foundation announces its second
annual First Amendment Essay Contest for high school juniors
and seniors in New York State. Designed to foster knowledge
and understanding of the First Amendment, the statewide
competition encourages students to learn more about our
nation’s freedoms and write persuasively about the rights
we, as Americans, hold dear. The statewide competition
offers you the chance to win a first-place prize of $10,000
for college, a $250 second-place, or $100 third-place prize.

AXA Achievement Scholarship
The AXA
Achievement Scholarship awards $670,000 to AXA Achievers. To
qualify you must demonstrate: ambition and drive;
determination to set and reach goals; respect for self,
family and community; and ability to succeed in college. Go
to
www.axa-achievement.com to learn more about the
scholarship program and download an application. You must
apply by December 15, 2007.
Coca-Cola Scholars Program
The
Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation is dedicated to selecting
well-rounded students from every type of community across
the nation. Each year the foundation awards 250
achievement-based scholarships. Recipients are well-rounded
individuals with highly developed interests in their
community. Applicants are evaluated on the following:
Demonstrated leadership in school; Commitment to community;
Academic Achievement; Part-time employment. You must file an
electronic application at

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards
The
Prudential Spirit of Community Awards were created in 1995
to recognize students in middle and high school grades who
have demonstrated exemplary community service. You must
complete an application online at
www.prudential.com/spirit or
www.principals.org/prudential by October 31, 2007.
You then print it out and submit it to Mrs. Bonitatibus in
Guidance. Sacred Heart High School will then select the
local honorees.
Voice of Democracy Program
The Voice of
Democracy is open to students in grades 9-12, who are
enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school in
the United States. You will write and record a broadcast
script on a patriotic theme. Please see Mrs. Bonitatibus in
Guidance for an application. The deadline for entries is
Nov. 1, 2007.
