ATTENDANCE
Daily attendance at school is
an essential factor in the learning process. Frequent absences
hinder the student’s full involvement in the learning process
and can place academic achievement in jeopardy. Students
should, therefore, be absent only for the most serious
reasons. Students with excessive absenteeism and/or tardiness
may be placed on probation following a parent conference with
the Administration.
Whenever a student is
absent, a parent or guardian must call the school at 965-3114
between 7:00 AM and 9:30 AM to report the absence. This
call must be made everyday a student is absent.
Extended absences of more than three schools days must be
explained with a written physician’s diagnosis.
In order for a student to
be allowed to return to classes, a written explanation of the
absence must accompany the student to school. The note must
contain the reason for the absence, the date of the absence,
and the signature of the parent or guardian. Students who
do not submit the written explanation may be deemed truant and
may not be allowed to attend classes. Also, students who do
not present a written explanation will receive a detention
each day until the written explanation is received.
New York State Board of
Regents acknowledges the following as acceptable reasons to be
absent from school: sickness, required court appearance, and
extreme weather conditions. All absences will be recorded on
both the student’s report card and record card.
Students who do not comply
with the attendance regulations are subject to disciplinary
action.
Students who are absent from
school for any reason will not be permitted on school grounds
or to attend or to participate in any school function on the
day (s) of the absence.
Missed School Work
Upon a student’s return to
school from an absence, the student will have the same number
of days to make up any missed work as days absent. For
example:
- 1 missed day = 1 day for
make up work
- 3 missed days = 3 days for
make up work
Missed Tests & Exams
Upon a students return to
school from an absence, the student will have two days to make
up any missed exams or tests. The principal must clear any
deviance from this policy. If a student is absent from a
Mid-Term or Final Exam a physician’s note, explaining the
absence, is required.
